Dustin Johnson has opted to continue using his spider putter in 2018 as the world number one aims to have more success in the Major Championships, with his short game being the area he has worked on the most during the off-season.
Johnson opened his campaign for the 2017/18 season on the PGA Tour with a tie for second behind Justin Rose in the World Golf Championship HSBC Champions event in China back in October. He is expected to line up in the Sentry Tournament of Champions and Farmers Insurance Open in January as he increases his competitive schedule.

Since his rookie year in 2008, Johnson has won at least one tournament every season on the PGA Tour. His best campaign to date came last year though as he won four events in the 2016/17 season. The record for the most wins in a single season is nine victories, which has only ever been achieved twice as Tiger Woods managed the feat in 2000, while Vijay Singh entered the record books in 2004.
Johnson went into the 2017 Masters Championship in hot form, with three victories on the PGA Tour in four tournaments. Unfortunately for the American, he fell down some stairs on the eve of the competition, which resulted in him injuring his back and withdrawing from the opening major of the year before he had even hit first tee shot.
Although Johnson was back in action after six weeks’ rest, he never returned to the same form which helped him to win the Genesis Open, WGC-Mexico Championship and WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.
Johnson is 7/1 in the latest golf betting to win the 2018 US Masters as he looks to continue his consistent record at Augusta. The 33-year-old has not finished worse than a tie for sixth place in his last two starts at the course. The US Ryder Cup player has an excellent record on the par-five holes in Georgia, which helps him to gain shots on the rest of the field.
After the Masters, the priority will be the US Open, the only Major Johnson has been able to land so far in his career. The big hitter came out on top in 2016, where he won the tournament by three strokes with a score of -4. In the final round at Oakmont, the winner was able to shoot a 69, where he held his nerve to lift the trophy.

The 2018 US Open will take place at Shinnecock Hills in New York. It will be the fifth time the Major has been hosted by the course. The 18 holes consist of 6996 yards, with one par-five on the front nine and back nine for Johnson to try and exploit.
Johnson will also want to try and follow Justin Thomas by winning the FedEx Cup in 2018. The current number one in the world rankings has held the top spot in the standings for almost a year now and success in the end of season play-offs will help him secure at the end of the campaign again.
